Experiment Log for SCP-688

Project Supervisor: Dr. A. V██████████

Log SCP-688-A-1
Date: 3/2/████

Procedure: Subject D-291 instructed to touch symbol on uppermost face.

Results: Upon approaching within 2 meters of SCP-688, subject collapsed. Medical technicians diagnosed fatal brain aneurysm.

Log SCP-688-A-2
Date: 3/4/████

Procedure: Subject D-304 instructed to hit SCP-688 with a 5.4kg sledgehammer.

Results: As subject swung at SCP-688, the head of the sledgehammer slipped off the end of the shaft, striking a wall of the test chamber. Subject immediately dropped the shaft and retreated to a corner of the room, exhibiting repetitive behaviors.

Interview excerpt:

Dr. V: What happened when you tried to hit the box?
D-304: Did hit it, smashed it, pieces, light, then light came out, light, light everywhere.
Dr. V: You didn't smash it - the head of the hammer came loose.
D-304: No, couldn't stop, didn't want to anymore, over and over and over, pieces and light and pieces and light…

Log SCP-688-A-3
Date: 3/7/████

Procedure: Subject D-209 instructed to touch one of the symbols on the front face.

Results: Subject D-209 could not be located - records indicate D-209 had been killed several months previously. Concurrent with scheduled testing, Subject D-309 lapsed into a fugue state from which he could not be roused. Investigation revealed D-309 was the intended subject, but D-209 was assigned due to a clerical error.

Log SCP-688-A-4
Date: 3/9/████

Procedure: Subject D-313 instructed to touch one of the symbols on the front face.

Results: While subject D-313 was being escorted to the testing chamber, building gas main exploded. 19 personnel were killed (including D-313), 47 injured. Severe structural damage to the building occurred, but the NE quadrant (where SCP-688 is stored) was largely unaffected.

Notes: Reclassify SCP-688 as Euclid. Recommend including a higher-probability "safety valve" in future experimental procedure.

Log SCP-688-A-5
Date: 3/14/████

Procedure: Subject D-319 instructed to roll 6.35kg bowling ball into SCP-688, but stop immediately if the room lights dimmed. Room lights were attached to a randomization routine 95% likely to activate within 5 minutes.

Results: Subject grazed his own right calf when releasing ball - it was deflected into several walls, eventually coming to rest against SCP-688 but with insufficient velocity to damage it. Subject became aggressive and violent, terminated during attempts to subdue him.

Log SCP-688-A-6
Date: 3/23/████
Procedure: A button was wired to open a water valve when depressed. When water filled a 5L canister (estimated to occur before 1 minute), a pneumatic spike would be driven into the side of SCP-688. Subject was ordered to hold button down, but stop immediately if the room lights dimmed. Room lights were attached to a randomization routine 95% likely to activate within 5 minutes.

Results: Subject held button down for 34 seconds, at which point room lights dimmed and subject released button. Subject showed no adverse effects and reported no unusual experiences. Canister was drained, lights were reset and procedure was restarted. Subject held button down for 48 seconds, at which point room lights dimmed and subject released button. Subject began screaming incoherently and required sedation.

Notes: It appears the last sentient involved in a decision to damage 688 is the only one aware of the loop, no matter how many dominoes fall after that. Recommend testing with temporally-advanced SCP's, we're running through a lot of D's here and aren't learning much anymore. -Dr. V.
